Recent Adventures

This is Baden posting. My first contribution.

We went to Seattle over the MLK weekend. One of our activities was sailing. Every Sunday the Center for Wooden Boats provides free boat rides on Lake Union.

Will and Eliza got to steer the boat for a little bit.

Sophie, who wanted to jump into the water, was pacified by food.

We also went to the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. The kids' favorite part was the giant Walruses with the mustaches.

We also saw this beautiful sunset at Golden Gardens Park.

Mary is an incredible cook though she will not admit it, and I do realize that I do not understand how good I have it seeing that my idea of great food (and still the best food ever) is Nalley's Chili. In Seattle at Pike Place we went to Mee Sum Pastry and had hum bow. It was so good that Mary made some for us after returning home. It was amazing!

Will did not like his fortune.

Sophie is not one for regular naps, and when she does take one, she likes to try different spots.

Sometimes when Mary leaves, I don't always know what Sophie is up to. Mary walked in the door one day and saw this. She is a world traveler!

Sophie also disappeared one day after dessert had already been eaten.

And finally, this past weekend we took a great adventure to an island.

My family and some of my friends from childhood will recognize this place. It is Vikings Island! Getting there, however, was difficult. How would we get across the water? Amazingly, I found a bridge that I laid down when I was a kid. I used to have a dam under the bridge. The dam is gone but the bridge remains!

Once across the bridge, we trekked through the wilderness. Sophie had a strong attraction to the stream, so holding her was a necessity.

And we made it!

We also trekked to the cement sewer things.

We grabbed Sophie before she could inch her way off the edge to the interesting stream-mud world below.

Sophie eventually died as a result of the exhausting journy.

But she revived, when Liza pulled out some M&M's.

Overall, the kids enjoyed the adventure to Vikings Island, the pond and the stream. It was awesome to go there. It was fun to show them where I grew up. Lots of great memories. Afterwards, Aunt Merleen invited us in for yummy raisin bread.

Great job Baden! What a nice way to help out your wife. I love the pics of your Seattle trip! I'm glad you tried and like Char Siu Bao (Hum Bao)it is one of my favorite Chinese foods. I've never had it at the place you got it though, we'll have to try it. Mary is sure adventurous in the recipes she tries. I also love Pocky Sticks. Have you tried the rice candy with edible wrapper yet? Sophie is a crack up. Love your fam!
